Prima Facie follows Tessa, an ambitious defense lawyer. She expertly represents her clients, including those who are accused of sexual assault. However, she finds out that the law does not provide justice after being raped by a coworker. Prima Facie is an Australia-U.K. co-production between Bunya Productions and Embankment Films.

Major production investment came from Minderoo Pictures, in association with Screen Australia and Camelback Productions. CML Entertainment Finance part-financed the film and Andrew Low is an executive producer.
